
The red wolf (Canis rufus) is smaller than the gray wolf. (
Canis lupus) They weigh between 45-80 pounds. They are mostly brown and buff colored sometimes with red shading around their ears, muzzle, and the backs of their legs. Red wolves are known to hunt alone and in packs. They eat whit-tailed deer, raccoons, and small mammals such as rabbits and rodents. They have been known to prey on demestic pets and livestock, but it's not very common.
